For the Play Expo segment (which we did as part of being in the Set Design team) we needed to add a few effects, these included sharpen and a colour correction. This made the piece seem more suitable for TV.
Review section:
For the effects, we added a 3 second clip of an intro for our show, which was produced by one of our colleagues. Then after that we then added an intro for the game, which was part of a trailer that we found on YouTube. Then we transitioned from the trailer to the actual review using a fade to black because it didn't look right otherwise. We didn't use any more effects apart from the ending which was the same as the intro clip.
After reviewing this clip we noticed that the camera is shaky and the overall shot is quite poor as there is no main focus that is relevant to the product we are creating. The colours in the clip are bleak and the focus of the camera is very bad. After applying stabilisation effects and colour correction, the clip still seemed poor and not fit for purpose.
This clip seemed fine at first, however under further inspection we realised it wasn't fit for purpose. This was because the clip seems too boring and plain, the object in focus is too simple and doesn't portray the Play Expo very well. Due to this we didn't decide to use the clip.
In this clip there is no main object, the camera pans around the building focusing on the tables. The camera isn't in good focus and swings around too fast, so the viewer can't tell what it is properly. The colours in the clip aren't vivid enough and don't look professional. The camera is too shaky and even with video stabilisation effects it still seems to sway too much. After adding effects such as sharpen and adding colour correction, the clip wasn't fit for purpose so we decided not to use it.
Review section:
Me and my colleague set up the equipment for the shooting. It took some where between the time frame of 1 and a half hours to 2 hours. When setting up they made sure to not let any wires left out and the one wire that they could not hide away we put masking tape over so that is could not be tripped over or knocked over the equipment. All of the other wires where all out of the way and could not be tripped over. We set up the set in the way that we had planned. The TV, chairs and table where all in the places that had been shown in the storyboards and we also sat in the places that where shown in the planning. Everything that was planned in the storyboard was implemented when we filmed. The one thing that we did not do word for word was what was said in the script.
This was due to time constraints because if we where to talk about every thing that was planned we would have gone over the time limit by a lot. We had always sent out the call sheet for what the equipment that we need for shooting. As we where reviewing games we needed to find an appropriate software or hardware to record the game footage. So we had to do research in to the best recording software and equipment to get so that we could make a better end product.
Once we created an offline edit for the
play expo footage, we watched it back and decided it needed a bit of tweaking
to make it fit for the purpose of going on live TV. The audio recorded was quite
poor, therefore we decided to enhance the audio from the interviews to make the
audio clearer. This was done by using effects in the editing programs, first we
added the audio effects ‘audio enhancer’ and ‘denoiser’. The audio still lacked
clearness so we put the audio in to Adobe Audition and worked on it there,
where we took out some background noise. After reviewing the footage we realized
that the colours weren’t very lively, to counter this we added a colour
correction in Final Cut Pro, we also decided to add sharpness make the video
more vivid and crisp. Without transitions the video didn’t flow very well, due
to this crossfades and fades to black were added, this also made the show look
a bit more professional. In the interviews name tags will be added so the
viewer can identify the guest, this makes the video more professional and
reminds the viewers of the show that is on. The effects on this were also added to the review section segment.
